There are two ranking indexes currently in use in the United States. One includes a list of prescriptions for states to implement in statutes and regulations, and is published by the National Association of Charter School Authorizers (NACSA). The other is similar in many ways and is published by the National Association of Public Charter Schools (NAPCS). Both of these focus on inputs only. In other words, neither of their ranking schemes account for how charter schools actually perform, or how many students have access to charter schools in each state.

EFI's new ranking index for states focuses on access and effectiveness. We're interested in results and outputs.

We're pleased to present this 'beta version' of our index as a precursor to a more robust report in the future.

Download the EFI report that challenges the status quo by creating a new ranking system based on outcomes for students rather than arbitrary prescriptions for inputs.
